About the film: The Offering is an elegiac meditation about the passing of life, told through the story of love and friendship between a Japanese monk and the novice who came into his life, from their initial encounter to their final parting.

About the filmmaker: Paul Lee graduated from the Universityof Torontowith Hon.B.Sc. (biology/anthropology/Latin American Studies), M.A. (anthropology), and Ph.D. (education), and from YorkUniversitywith M.B.A. (arts & media administration) and M.F.A. (film). Since 1991 he has programmed for many film festivals around the world. Paul has produced over 30 women's films, Asian films, human rights/social justice films, and LGBT films. Paul’s first short filmThick Lips Thin Lipshas won 9 awards, and was screened at over 260 festivals, after its premiere at the 1994 Berlin Film Festival. His second film These Shoes Weren't Made For Walkinghas won 6 awards, and was screened at over 100 festivals, after its premiere at the 1995 Sydney Film Festival. His third film The Offeringhas won 71 awards, and was screened at over 490 festivals, after its premiere at the 1999 Berlin Film Festival.
